| Reef
and Rainforest - Rwanda Known as The Land of a Thousand Hills, and with little more than one-third the land area of Scotland, Rwanda contains 20-odd lakes, numerous rivers, forests (including Nyungwe, one of East Africa's last high-altitude primary forests and with one of the highest biodiversity levels in Africa), five volcanoes, three very different national parks (savannah, mountain and forest) - and, of course, the mountain gorillas of Dian Fossey and Gorillas in the Mist fame. |
Africa

Rwanda is a landlocked country surrounded by Uganda in the north, Tanzania
in the east, Burundi in the south, and Zaire to its west and northwest.
World66
Travel Guide - Rwanda
Rwanda, land of a thousand hills, is a tiny landlocked enclave in Central
Africa. Sharing borders with Tanzania, Uganda, DRC and Burundi, Rwanda is
experiencing a tourism rebound after falling off the map post-genocide 1994.
The country is split by the Rift Valley, and dominated by a mountain range
that traverses the country from north to south. The West coast of the country
overlooks the beautiful shores of Lake Kivu. French and Kinyarwandais are
spoken throughout the country though English is now commonplace with the
massive influx of returnees from Uganda.
Lonely
Planet - Rwanda
Rwanda once evoked images of gorillas and breathtaking mountain views, until
the country was devastated by the attempted genocide of the Tutsi tribe
in 1994. These days, much of the country is rebuilt, the economy resurrected,
and travellers can move around much more safely.
