Tonga
Escapes With a capital whose name translates as 'Abode of Love', there has to be something going on in the Friendly Islands that we don't know about. Most Tongans are warm and welcoming, but it's difficult to see how they could be otherwise when home is a series of lush Pacific islands, bordered by unbelievable beaches, surrounded by coral reefs, basking under a tropical sun. That's hard to beat. But there's a more active side to island life, with possibilities for hiking through Pacific rainforest to crater lakes and to the lips of active volcanoes, diving to shipwrecks and underwater canyons, abseiling down seaside cliffs or watching the local rugby team go through its paces. |

Oceania - Tonga
Tonga is a miniature Kingdom, made up of a group of 170 islands, 45 of which
are inhabited. They form a necklace just west of the International Dateline.
The main island of Tongatapu in the south is the home of the Kingdom's capital,
Nuku'alofa. North lies the Ha'apai group, a chain of low lying atolls surrounded
by clear turquoise waters. Beyond Ha'apai lies the Vava'u group, a paradise
of lush tropical landscapes, a deep water harbour, rock islands and limestone
caves.
Beautiful Tonga
Tonga holidays are renowned for its water based activities in Vavau which
boast fantastic bays and lagoons for sailing, unique whale watching opportunities
(May-Oct) and world class game fishing. There are also some of the most
beautiful uninhabited small coral islands off Tongatapu to explore with
excellent value boutique beach resorts. Beautiful Pacific is based in the
South Pacific Islands and we know all the tonga hotels and tours we promote
intimately. We visit them at least once a year, and have all the local news
at our fingertips. We will ensure your holiday expectations are met in every
way possible.

Travel Guide - Tonga
The archipelago of "The Friendly Islands" was united into a Polynesian
kingdom in 1845. 30 years later it became a constitutional monarchy and
a British protectorate in 1900. Tonga acquired its independence in 1970
and became a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. It remains the only
monarchy in the Pacific.
Lonely
Planet - Tonga
On Tonga you can party and drink kava at festivals till you drop, be impressed
by the Sunday church turn outs, and then escape to deserted beaches where,
between snorkelling in untouched coral gardens and sipping coconut juice,
the most you need do is watch the waves slap against the shore.
