- Barbados
In its British Empire days, Barbados was known as Little England. It was
the first colony to declare war in 1939 and cheered Britons with a cable
that read: "Don't worry. Little England is with you." Today, the
island is independent but still cherishes Anglo-Saxon civility, cricket
and high tea. After 350 years of colonization, Britain has left its mark
and added much to the beguiling charm of "Little England in the Tropics."

Holiday
Lettings - Barbados
Sometimes known as Little England, Barbados is the ultimate in tropical
get-aways. Lying just to the east of the Caribbean and surrounded by coral
reefs this is a truly idyllic island. Relax and soak up the sun on the fine
pinky-white sands or take a dip in the calm blue waters of the Caribbean
Sea. Surfers should head to the South coast where the sea is full of gentle
waves and you will also find some of the world's best windersurfing conditions.
Lonely
Planet - Barbados
Barbados is the 'Little England' of the Caribbean, but not so much so that
the locals have given up rotis for kidney pies, or rum for bitter ale. Bajans,
as the islanders call themselves, are as West Indian as any of their Caribbean
neighbours, and have tended to selectively borrow rather than assume English
customs.
