Gulf Adventures
A tiny peninsula, with a land area of only 11,437 square kilometers, that's juts into the Arabian Gulf, Qatar is known as the 'Thumb of Arabia'. Only 160 kilometers from its northern tip to its southern border with Saudi Arabia, it lies roughly halfway up the western shores of the Gulf. Much of Qatar lies at sea level, though some points in the southwest rise to 50 meters above sea level. Qatar, surrounded by Sea on all three sides, has strong historical and cultural ties to the sea.

Go Mideast - Qatar
Qatar is a small country that will leave your friends scratching their heads when you tell them where you are going. Which is one of the most important reasons to go... Other reasons might include: a friendly culture, an interesting history, beautiful deserts and beaches, and it's the home of Al-Jazeera. Explore a little with us.

Get Packing - Qatar
Qatar occupies a peninsular and islands that jut out into the Arabian Gulf off the coast of Saudi Arabia, and until relatively recently, was fairly unknown to the western world, with an inward looking government more interested in maintaining tradition in the country than welcoming hordes of tourists. However, in recent years, having seen the popularity of other gulf destinations such as Dubai, and obviously the revenue that has been generated, the state of Qatar has thrown open its doors to the world, and invested heavily in turning itself into a place that people actively want to travel to, rather than just somewhere that they pass through.

Lonely Planet - Qatar
It only began issuing tourist visas in 1989, but after a slow start Qatar has begun to reap the benefits of its new openness. Visitors are welcomed to a land of glitzy new hotels, towering sand dunes, ancient rock carvings and distinctive architecture.
